Ontario Investing in New Seniors Programs in Essex County

ESSEX COUNTY — Today, Ontario announced a new investment to improve quality of life and build community engagement in Amherstburg and Kingsville by adding a new local Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) Program in each community.

“This is an exciting day for Amherstburg, Kingsville and the entire region,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “These new Seniors Active Living Centres let our seniors stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected so they can continue to live independent lives.”

The new Amherstburg and Kingsville Seniors Active Living Centres provide older adults a dedicated place to host additional activities.

“I am delighted that seniors in Amherstburg and Kingsville are receiving this investment,” said Anthony Leardi, MPP for the riding of Essex. “The new SALC programs and services will provide them with the means to stay active and engaged.”

Amherstburg and Kingsville are part of Ontario’s Seniors Active Living Centre expansion to serve the needs of province’s older adults.

“We are incredibly grateful to receive this provincial funding for a new senior active living centre in Kingsville,’ said Dennis Rogers, Mayor of Kingsville. “Through our arrangement with the Kingsville Community Centre, our residents will gain access to enhanced and expanded 55+ programming within the Centre and at various locations throughout our communities. This is great news for our Town.”

“We extend our gratitude to Minister Cho and MPP Leardi for their investment in our Seniors Active Living Centre. This Seniors Active Living Centre will provide programs to promote wellness, social interaction and education to reduce isolation and help seniors stay active, independent and engaged in our community now and into the future,” said Amherstburg’s Mayor Michael Prue. “This commitment underscores the importance of investing in the well-being and quality of life of our seniors, who have contributed so much to our community’s growth and prosperity.”
